Barclays are enabling a card blocking option for at risk consumer debt orientated customers as they allow card holders to opt in to automatically declining payments in locations such as pubs, gambling shops, restaurants and takeaways.

HMRC have caused a stir by requesting debtors pay for their tax by securing personal or commercial loans. Due to not being a preferential creditor now, HMRC are seemingly attempting to find ways to become one unofficially making requests such as these. Many are sceptical; commenting that HMRC’s debts are no more important than a local tradespersons.
